What is the C Lydian Mode?

Lydian is the fourth mode of the major scale, distinguished by its raised 4th degree (#4) which creates a dreamy, floating sensation that sounds like the major scale but brighter. You'll hear it in film scores, Steve Vai solos, and Joe Satriani's melodic work — any time a composer wants to evoke wonder or weightlessness. Here's how the C Lydian Mode lays out on the fretboard.
