Phrygian is the third mode of the major scale, and its defining feature is the ♭2 — a half step right above the root that gives it an immediately recognizable dark, exotic flavor. The third mode - dark and Spanish-flavored. The flat 2 is distinctive. On bass, this scale becomes a toolkit for strong roots, passing tones, and melodic fills that still support the groove.
