What is the Db Ionian Mode?

The Ionian mode is musically identical to the major scale, but thinking of it as the first of seven modes opens the door to a completely different way of navigating the fretboard. When you treat Ionian as one color in a palette of seven, you start hearing how each mode creates its own mood over the same set of notes. Here's how the Db Ionian Mode lays out on the fretboard. This scale is enharmonically equivalent to C# Ionian.

Notes and Positions

The first mode - identical to the major scale. Bright and resolved. On guitar, the same scale tones repeat in multiple positions, so the real goal is learning how to connect shapes up and down the neck. How to Use It
