What is the Ab Phrygian Mode?

Phrygian is the third mode of the major scale, and its defining feature is the ♭2 — a half step right above the root that gives it an immediately recognizable dark, exotic flavor. It's the sound of flamenco guitar and has deep roots in Spanish and Middle Eastern musical traditions. Here's how the Ab Phrygian Mode lays out on the fretboard.
